What the law requires in Alberta
In Alberta, workplace safety is governed by OHS Act (RSA 2000). The specific first aid requirements are set out in Occupational Health and Safety Code, Part 11 (First Aid), Schedule 2; CSA Z1210-17 and CSA Z1220-17, administered by Alberta OHS (Director of Medical Services).
As a Canadian province, Alberta has its own occupational health and safety framework with jurisdiction over all workplaces.
Training requirements
The required training levels in Alberta are: basic (6.5 hours), intermediate (13 hours), advanced (80 hours). Certifications are valid for 3 years and must be renewed before expiry to remain compliant.
